Instead, resale data compiled from Japan's Minna Camera marketplace shows it remains the single most-traded prime lens in the country, outpacing every modern alternative by a wide margin.
The reasons cited consistently trace back to character rather than specs: a distinctively soft, dreamy bokeh wide open, film-like color rendering that suits the retro aesthetic many X-series shooters are chasing, and a 53mm full-frame-equivalent focal length that splits the difference between wide and standard. It lacks weather sealing and an aperture ring click-stop the newer WR version added, but for a generation of photographers who've discovered it secondhand, those omissions haven't mattered — it's simply become the lens people keep buying.
