Fujifilm's original XF27mm F2.8 launched back in 2013 as a genuine pancake lens — thin, light, and easy to forget was even mounted. The 2021 redesign kept that slim profile (about 23mm thick, comparable to a stack of pancakes) while adding two things the original lacked: full weather resistance and a dedicated aperture ring, both long-requested by owners of the first version.
At 27mm (41mm full-frame equivalent), it sits close to a natural field of view, which is part of why photographers reach for it so often — f/2.8 is plenty of light for street and everyday shooting, and the compact size means it rarely feels like a burden to carry. Autofocus can hunt briefly in low light, a known limitation, but for photographers prioritizing portability over outright speed, it's remained one of the most recommended lenses in Fujifilm's entire X-mount catalog.
