Canon ended new EF-mount lens development years ago, shifting all its R&D to the RF mirrorless mount, and new EF lens production stopped in 2022. Since then, individual EF and EF-S lenses have been marked discontinued on Canon Japan's own webstore one by one — even long-running favorites, as Digital Camera World has tracked.

This EF-S55-250mm F4-5.6 IS STM telephoto zoom, built for Canon's APS-C DSLRs, is still in stock for now. It still works on Canon's newer RF mirrorless bodies too, via Canon's own EF-EOS R mount adapter, for anyone building a budget telephoto kit without committing to RF-native glass yet.
