Sony's FE 40mm F2.5 G is one third of a matched set — released alongside the 24mm F2.8 G and 50mm F2.5 G, all sharing identical 68 x 45mm dimensions and near-identical weight around 170 grams. That's not a coincidence: gimbal and vlogging setups need rebalancing every time lens weight distribution changes, so a matched trio means switching from a 40mm to a 50mm without touching the gimbal's calibration.
At 40mm — closer to a natural field of view than the more common 50mm standard — it suits everything from street photography to product shots, with dust and moisture sealing for outdoor use despite the compact build. There's no optical stabilization built in, relying instead on in-body stabilization in newer Sony cameras, which keeps the lens itself as light and small as the trio concept demands.
