Full-frame zoom lenses are rarely small. Sony's own FE 28-70mm kit lens, a long-time standard bundle for its A7-series cameras, was already considered compact by full-frame standards — until the FE 28-60mm F4-5.6 replaced it in 2021. At 167 grams and just 45mm long retracted, it's 43% lighter and 38mm shorter than the lens it succeeded, while still covering a full-frame sensor.
The tradeoff is a slower, fixed-ish aperture range (F4 at 28mm, F5.6 at 60mm) rather than the faster glass serious zoom shooters chase, but that's the point: this is a lens built to disappear in a bag, not headline a kit. Paired with a compact body like the Sony A7C, it turns a full-frame camera into something that travels closer to the size of an old point-and-shoot.
