When Seiko relaunched the 5 Sports line, the all-black SBSA005 (known as SRPD55 in export markets) became the reference point everything else got measured against — a black dial, black bezel insert, and stainless bracelet with SKX-style hands that nod directly at Seiko's discontinued SKX007, the diver this collection was built to succeed. It's not the flashiest 5 Sports variant, but reviewers keep circling back to it as the one that defines what the line is supposed to be.
Underneath is the familiar 4R36 automatic movement — 41-hour power reserve, day/date function, hacking and hand-winding — in a 42.5mm case with 100m water resistance. It doesn't carry the SKX's ISO dive certification or 200m rating, a point some purists hold against it, but at less than a third of what a comparable Swiss diver costs, it's remained the default recommendation for a first mechanical watch for exactly that reason.
