When the original Orient Mako launched in 2004, it did something few dive watches at its price point managed: it looked and functioned like watches costing several times more. The nickname "Mako" came from enthusiasts, not Orient's marketing department, and it stuck hard enough that Orient eventually adopted it as the official name for later generations, including the Mako II and Mako USA.
A decade after launch, Orient went back to the community that had adopted the watch and asked what they'd change — sapphire crystal and a reworked bezel were the most common answers, and Orient built them into the watches that followed. This RN-AC0Q01B carries that same 40mm diver format forward: a 20 ATM water-resistant case, manual winding with hacking seconds, and a no-crown-guard design that keeps the profile clean on the wrist.
